Pity Poor Maureen Dowd

...for some reason, she can't get a man.

Greater minds than mine have turned this over, but I am reminded of a musical I saw in Philly once, a biopic of blues singer Dinah Washington. In one scene, the DIVA has words with a trombonist she thinks is trying to hog her stage. He has a different point of view, and quits rather than put up with it. She accuses him of being "unable to deal with strong women" or some such. He turns to her, as he packs up his horn, and says "'Strong?' Because you got flunkies all around you that you can be nasty to? I think you got 'strong' confused with 'rude'?"

Naturally, she can't resist him after that.
