It's the End of the World, and I feel a bit gassy, but otherwise, I'm fine...

When both the Washington Times and the Washington Post agree that a fight's a-brewin', then a fight's a-brewin'. Whether it quite manages the world-ending battle that some may suggest remains to be seen, but it's certain that ideologies will be driving, accusations launched, talking points beaten like dead equine, etc.

One thing caught my eye:

Sen. Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat and member of the Judiciary Committee, took to the ramparts opposite Mr. Frist.
"It is sad that the president felt he had to pick a nominee likely to divide America instead of choosing a nominee in the mold of Sandra Day O'Connor, who would unify us," he said. "This controversial nominee, who would make the court less diverse and far more conservative, will get very careful scrutiny from the Senate and from the American people."

So Sandra Day O'Connor was supposed to "unify us." Is that what she did? The right despised her as a squish and penumbra-expander. No unification there. So who is this "us"?

I would also like to call for a moratorium on the use of the word "controversial" It's a tepid effort to make your opinion seem objective without persuasion. Alito is only controversial to Schumer and those who think as he does. To everyone else, he's perfectly fine.

If this is the best that the Senate Dems have for them, then this should be Roberts all over again.
